Direct Dil Se ... An opportunity well treasured!

IMT Ghaziabad saw the social sustainability Responsibility project for the first time, and I am glad to have been given a chance to experience it. Working for an NGO gave me an insight into how an organisation works when profit is not the motive. The stakeholders are not people who have invested in you but are those whose lives depend on your efforts.

Working in "Jagriti" initiative of Sshrishti Trust has given me an insight into the lives of underprivileged, but very talented women.

The field visits were the best part because I got the chance to practice and improve my negotiation skills and as a by product, I now know Delhi much better!

Overall I am really glad that our work can bring about change in the lives of people who need support! and through them we got to learn so much.

Thanks to Sshrishti who has given me a chance to do so and special thanks to my mentors at Sshrishti who guided all of us through this wonderful journey!

Household Horrors Shagun Kulshreshtha “At home”, a phrase that makes one feel relaxed, at peace, vulnerable and safe. Family can provide a kind of comfort that no one can match. But with the social norms that regard females as the “weaker” gender, there often are cases of domestic violence against them. Women face unfair treatment not only in their own families but also from their spouses or partners. Alcoholism, financial troubles, mental stress, need to assert physical power, and one’s insecurities are some factors that drive the dominant to abuse the submissive. All households, no matter from whichever walk of life, experience these issues. These heinous crimes take place behind closed doors and victimises wives, daughters, nieces, and even granddaughters. From the rural parts of India to the urbanized cities, gender-based domestic violence is an abusive expression of patriarchy. The use of physical force, mental torture, and even murders have deemed women’s homes unsa...

Nitin comes for remedial classes at Sshrishti’s Community Resource Network (CRN) learning centre. Initially Nitin had difficulty in interacting with those around him because of his extremely argumentative and impatient behaviour. He often avoided attending school and was prone to even screaming in class. His academic performance was low but the teachers of Sshrishti’s learning centre recognized in him the potential to do well. Teachers started working on particular areas of improvement including homework, academic performance and behavioural conduct.  Receiv...

Volunteering @ Sshrishti: An experience worth sharing

Choosing a good firm for your internship is not an easy job. I was lucky enough to choose one. Sshrishti India Trust was the organization I shortlisted after much research. At Sshrishti, I had fun as well as learned a lot about NGO working and its principles. Learning is the important part the important lesson which my mentor Ms. Ankur gave me was interning in a Ngo is an adventure. You get to visit and understand places in your city you never thought existed. Me and my friends interned in Sshrishti means creation. It has the mission of creating a literate and equitable society with every child and woman empowered to pursue their dreams. It is a very good Ngo to work for and I was lucky enough to get selected. On our very first day we went to see some of the centers of Sshrishti. Sshrishti Ladli and Sshrishti Jai Hind camp. These are some centers which are located near Vasant Kunj. There we met some inquisitive children and we had candid discussions with them about...
